So as every RTS player who hasn't been hiding under a rock is aware, Rings are the new way to get an edge over your opponent (unless of course they are rocking a $10K Sclass team). Below is my own personal guide on how to use and collect rings easily, if you have patience. I currently have both Raven and Camilla maxed (120 rings used) with 68 extra rings just lying around, I also am currently in 1st place in the Champions League, over 200K ahead of 2nd place... Although I may be tempted to open the new boxes for collectables rather than rings. All of this was F2P and in Diamond 3.
This guide will be broken into 3 parts; using rings, collecting rings and general tips.
Using Rings
With every character I have observed so far (albeit the first ring for all aside from Raven and Camilla as I didn't want to use the rings I just wanted to check the boost), Rings contribute noticeably more towards attack than hp or defence. This is important to note, as a ring will therefore give greater benefit to a toon with a decent attack and attacking AR than it will a defensive toon or shield. Of course, you might need your shield or supporter to have that bit more protection and so give them the rings. But it is a point to bear in mind.
You gain far more in RTS from successful attacks than you do successful defences, so this makes it even more logical to upgrade toons that will be on your attacking team over toons on your defensive team. Of course, if you have toons that are in both teams, they should definitely be a priority. My Camilla, with the help of rings, decent mods and a +38% attack weapon, has 6,903 attack before any in-battle boosts, her AR pretty much wipes any 6star out, especially when considering the burn afterwards.
Rings give greater boosts the higher the rank that they are granting. So you gain far greater boosts between 25-26 than between 5-6 for example. This means it is far more efficient to totally upgrade 1 character before moving onto another. Unless you are intending to level up another character to take the place of another in a team, the gear required for the promotions (once every 5 steps I think), will be put to greater use promoting the toons you use rather than levelling up another that you won't use, solely for level up points. Try and use toons that you know you will be using for the forseeable future and if you are close on acquiring an Sclass and think that you will have the food and gear to max them soon, make sure you save 60 rings for them.
*Warning* Promoting a toon through a level up milestone rather than passing it with a normal level up, will mean that you miss that milestone. I read this on the Scopely forum and then confirmed it myself.
Collecting Rings
Firstly, I've seen it said on the Scopely forums that domination rather than endurance is the easiest way to gain rings for F2P. This idea needs to be discarded. It is simply not true. It enforces the idea that using tickets a few more times to try and place highly is a good use for them. It is not. You will be affected far more by the RNG of match ups this way than you ever will be in endurance.
Now that's out of the way, what you need to consider before collecting rings, is collecting tickets. Tickets can be achieved through arena battles, reward bags from war and daily missions, stashes, milestones in events and arenas and probably other avenues I have forgotten. You tend to receive an arena ticket for every 8-10 arena battles won. Collecting these of course is a priority, and for the first 2 or 3 weeks, this is what you want to be focusing on, not on the rings themselves. Only ever use your free tickets and maybe one more if they keep it at 5 arenas a week, to hit the champions ticket milestone (you should on average get this ticket back by the 5 extra +5 champions arena battles you will do because of it). Whilst they have reduced the amount of available tickets over the past couple of weeks, you should be able to collect 40 in just 2 or 3 weeks. During the collection of tickets weeks, unless it is a domination which suits your team, go for the mid level teams unless you know you will definitely be beating the higher teams, this will guarantee you more wins and therefore more tickets.
40 is the magic number. 40 allows you to hit the endurance modes twice with the x7 multiplier and also use your 5 free tickets. This means of the 45, there are 2 to choose where you want to use them, you might choose to improve your score on a Domination or extend your score on an endurance. This is all down to the situation of the moment. Whatever you do, do not just use the 40 as soon as you have them, check the 2 Endurance modes and Champions mode of that week and only go for that week if those endurance modes fit your team. I strongly advise against using them on a Draft endurance mode week, as you will be relying heavily on RnG. This week for example, was Old School and Classic Endurances, both which suit my teams, Using this tactic, I finished 2nd in Old School, and 1st in Classic, giving me 51 rings just from these 2. I also finished 8th in Trait Mania, taking the count up to 57 rings including milestones so far.
40 also means that you will achieve the 45 milestone with the 5 free tickets added on, meaning 5 champions tickets altogether from just milestones. If you finish a 1st and a 2nd or 3rd finish in your 2 Endurances, this means that you will have 10 champions tickets for the x7 bonus. If you finish 1st in both Endurances then you'll even have a spare. It also means that once you've used these you will pass the 50 mark milestone which will help towards the next collection of 40 tickets. At that point you should have collected 10 from milestones and another 3-5 just from them dropping in arenas throughout the week.
In the Champions arena, put that score up asap (I even used an extra 500 gold for another couple of gos just to make it look even more of a stretch to prevent anyone else from bothering - that's ok though if I get over 1K back), there are 2 reasons for this, 1 is to get the score before many defences are set and the other is to discourage others from spending. If they think that they will have to spend over 1K to take the lead and therefore lose out, it is a big discouragement, especially if they aren't sure if you will be coining further.
General Tips
-Make sure the week suits your team before committing
-Prioritise arenas when you log on before any other energy
-Don't waste tickets trying to improve scores in domination in any week unless it's one of the 2 spare during the week you are pushing
-Look carefully at opponents teams before deciding which 5 to pick, for example, if its the top score team but has 3 Waylands and you have no disarms in the team or a large amount of healing, skip it, you'll probably get less points anyway even if you do win due to having less toons left standing.
-Know the teams you struggle with with each of your different teams. Eg: My second team can deal with a Doc and a Command, but a Doc and a Command are kryptonite to my 1st team. Not worth picking them.
-Don't get into a war of attrition for 1st spot. 2nd is still good.
-And obviously... go in reverse order of score for the 5 teams you pick. Smallest to highest.
